Syllabus
This course will cover basics of computer systems with a strong emphasis on algorithms, design thinking, and creative exploration. Much of our journey will be centered around the task of gaining some proficiency in programming in the C language. You will learn why this particular language is so important over the course of the year. You will be expected to be on time and present in class. You must use classroom technology appropriately and complete the tasks assigned each day. There should be very little homework.
You will be expected to uphold very high standards of academic honesty. You will see specific rules attached to most assignments, but in general you may not turn in work that is not your own unless you have written instructions from Mr. Dunn instructing otherwise.
Grading
Grading will follow usual middle school rules:
- Classwork - 45%
- Tests - 20%
- Projects - 20%
- 6 Weeks Exam - 15%
Each 6 weeks will consist of 1 project, 2 tests, and a 6 weeks exam. There will generally be at least 2 classwork grades taken each week.
Retests
If you fail a test, there will be several options to make up the grade. A retest will be one of them, but you will have other opportunities to demonstrate mastery.
Don’t Panic!
Please address any concerns with me in person so by email as soon as they arise. Don’t panic!
No, really! Don’t Panic!
The textbook and most assignments are viewable, but please resist the urge to read too far ahead. We are going to embark on a journey, and we will all make it successfully to the end. But to do so, you must remember: “Don’t panic!”
